My name is Gautam Desai, a junior at the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (GSMST), and I founded Kids For Chess in the spring of 2018. I have always been passionate about how children can effectively learn and develop, but it wasn't until I founded Kids For Chess that I truly realized that it is my duty to take greater action; the majority of children's minds are often idle and their time is wasted playing video games. I myself was fortunate enough to have grown up with an extended family of experienced chess players, who taught me new chess techniques, and my parents even hired a GrandMaster to teach me how to advance my skills at the game at an early age. All of these privileges, which I am extremely grateful for, allowed me to reap the benefits of the activity by winning games across Metro Atlanta. However, many other kids are missing out on this positive influence in their lives, and the Kids for Chess organization will help them reach their full potential, as all profits are donated to various local charities such as Rainbow Village. Rainbow Village works to aid those facing poverty and the homeless (www.rainbowvillage.org).
